These visas allow you to stay in Thailand for 90 days, but you cannot work. They are single-entry visas, so if you leave the country, you will need to apply for a new visa to re-enter. You can extend your visa or change its type once you are in Thailand by contacting the Immigration Department. The visa process takes about a month, or longer if the application is incomplete.
These visas are granted to individuals who want to engage in various activities in Thailand, such as business, teaching, or employment.
The SMART Visa programme is a government initiative to attract skilled workers and cutting-edge technologies to drive the Thai economy forward. The programme is open to science and technology experts, senior executives, investors, and startups. SMART Visa holders are granted numerous benefits, including tax breaks, work permit exemptions, and expedited visa processing.
These two visas allow foreigners to extend their stay in Thailand. However, the Thai Elite Visa is a fee-based programme, while the LTR Visa is not. The Thai Elite Visa also offers greater flexibility in terms of length of stay and visa renewal options.
A work permit is required for all foreigners who want to work legally in Thailand. Work permits are issued by the Ministry of Labour and are valid for one year. Work permits can be renewed for additional one-year periods.
Permanent residency offers many advantages, including access to property, simplified work permits, and the possibility of becoming a director of a Thai company. It also paves the way for the naturalisation of Thai nationality and allows one’s family members to apply for extended stay and permanent resident status.
